Nevermind, It's an interview MC
#1
Introduction:

Year: 1992
Label: DGC
Code: (none)
Tracks: (none; two sided cassette with interview and music samples played through both sides.

Notes:
Typical insert and printed tape face labels for period one-off or ultra low run promo cassettes.

I had never heard of, or seen one of these when I stumbled upon it;
I stayed quiet to see if I could ride out the auction with the winning bid... and I did!
For now, I very well might have the only existing copy of this - and if that is my small claim to fame, I'll take it.

Hi,

Congrats Smile it is a great item. I knew someone from the forum got it.
I followed the auction at the time and everything seemed right.

If you analyse the following, you will find that the same cassette shell and labels were used:

http://www.discogs.com/Nirvana-MTV-Unplugged-In-New-York/release/6652898

These are also controversial, but following the same pattern:

http://www.discogs.com/Nirvana-Verse-Chorus-Verse/release/6652939

http://www.discogs.com/Nirvana-Live-In-Concert/release/6655899

http://www.discogs.com/Nirvana-Live-122891-Westwood-One-Del-Mar-Show/release/7224672

Anyway, some collectors still believe that these are not originals, but (honestly) I cannot find anything proving this.

On the other hand, this is totally fake:

I just feel a bit sad, 'cause I had a copy in my hands for £50 and I should have bought it to sell for £££ (it seems everyone wants it).

I am not sure how to get stuff published on discogs - but maybe someone can help me along?

That 'Verse Chorus Verse' tape seems legit, and iirc someone on nirvana-records even had a vhs with the promo spot intended for the release;
The Del Mar one makes little sense, but again follows the format for these cassette releases;
The 'Live in Concert' seems suspect to me for two reasons;
1) this is the small one; wrong case
2) this is the big one; printed b&w vs colour, and text format seems off.

I have seen these format tapes for released albums as well - which lends to the credibility of them as a whole.

Well, agree with all except Live Concert.
The cassette shell is the same as the others.
The label is the same as the others.

Well, having a TDK logo doesn't prove much, indeed. Probably, the box got broken and the seller change it.

Regarding the point 2), could you be more precise on your approach?

Well for starters the "DGC" on the insert front face is black & white, lending me to think it's a grey scale photocopy that's been modified.

Additionally, why would the cassette labels say "mixed by andy wallace", but no song listing;
Why would a concert that was never intended to be released as an album be put to a pre-release format, let alone, why would DGC pay Andy Wallace to mix this concert which was never going to be released?
It just "feels" wrong to me...

Huh? They "released" this as a promo, of course somebody had to mix the songs. This tape is just some in-house thing, sure, but the CD was sent out. Writing a track listing for this is a big task, so they probably didn't give a shit. Smile

Pandas sometimes are right Smile

As yours, this is probably "just some in-house thing".

On the photocopy, I can assure you that is not a photocopy Wink

Regarding not being released, actually it has been released by Geffen, you might know it as Live at Paramount.

Andy Wallace is credited as the Mixer of this recording and yes Geffen paid him.

This is another odd official release without much information. We could add it to the pile of Sliver 7" red, CAYA 7" Spanish test pressing, the NZ cassette singles or the No Alternative Swirl Front Sleeve, just to mention a few.

By the way, someone mentioned a discussion on this same topic in another forum (Livenirvana). Unfortunately, I am not a member and I could not access the link.
Could anyone be kind enough to copy the conversation in here so we could understand what others have to say about this? Many thanks Big Grin
