Sonopress Nevermind Geffen logo
#1
I found this Nevermind Sonopress with Geffen Logo. I always thought that Geffen logo has not been used before the end of 1992 and never used by Sonopress. Moreover my copy has 108 A-1 / 108 B-1 matrix with no roman letter, so it should be a copy pressed from the first copper mother. So I'm wondering when this copy was pressed, a first press or a later press? Anyone has more info?

I don't know about the Geffen logo, but the lack of roman numerals does not necessarily mean anything.

They probably did not write anything on the first copper mother (master copper). Then they copied it an made a set of father places, of which again more mothers were made (and then stampers). It's probably these mothers which were numbered. So perhaps some day in 1993 (or whatever) they made a copper mother and never put any numbers on it. I don't know...

I agree with you about roman numerals, that could identify a copied mother . It's pretty common with DMM to use first stampers made by copper mother as a father to originate a copied mother. It's a good way to avoid a new cut from master. My doubts were about the release date if it's true that Sonopress stopped the vinyl production in 1992.
I don't know...anyway these Sonopress Geffen logo are pretty uncommon, more rare than Sonopress DGC label.

That's right, I forgot about that. It's true, they stopped in 1992. I got the information from their website.

Records could have been made in Holland after 1992 using Sonopress metal parts (I know there's one variant of a record which has Dutch matrix on one side, and German on the other), but I think they would have changed the labels. So maybe not...

Maybe it was for some mail-order thing like the Columbia House releases or whatever in the USA.
