will happen to us, too, but that's quite far away. in mid-term I think in 10-20 years we'll see a peak in value, at least that's my guess...

Many items have reached a low in recent years. Others have stabilised. So, I guess we are living the moment.
On the other hand, collectors are reaching better salaries (with their career progression, stronger currencies, etc.), but we have also lost a few important collectors (who were increasing some of the prices). Time will tell.

Interesting article. A record collection should definitely not be seen as a future retirement income.

I agree, but most certainly other collectors with some crazy money will come eventually...

Collections and artists are made by trends.
Caravaggio is one of the greatest and most influential figures in the arts, but forgotten for 200 years. Only rediscovered by the public in the late 1800's through a series of exhibitions. The same can be said by El Greco. Cezanne was discovered by Vollard in his late 40s early 50s. etc. etc.
Musically, the world is full of forgotten musicians, highly collected in the past.
Just open a Record Collector magazine from the 80's or even the 90's and check their annual poll... many are long gone.
I remember the LP first edition "Tigermilk" by Belle & Sebastian selling for £700 around 1999 or the 12" promo "Columbia" by Oasis selling for £750 and now worth £150-200.

One thing is certain, I will not sell my collection, but probably my kids will :p
